{"id":11378,"date":"2025-02-14T12:40:59","date_gmt":"2025-02-14T11:40:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.museoduomomonza.it\/other-churches-in-monza\/saint-mary-of-the-angels\/"},"modified":"2025-02-25T11:51:46","modified_gmt":"2025-02-25T10:51:46","slug":"saint-mary-of-the-angels","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.museoduomomonza.it\/en\/other-churches-in-monza\/saint-mary-of-the-angels\/","title":{"rendered":"Saint Mary of the Angels"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The church of Santa Maria degli Angeli was built in 1608 at the behest of the priest and writer Bartolomeo Zucchi, who died of plague in 1630. <\/p>\n\n<p>Heir to an ancient and noble family, the Zucchi wanted to erect a public church near his father\u2019s house, dedicated to the Blessed Virgin, exactly on the place where on 11 August 1578 San Carlo Borromeo had healed a noblewoman from Monza suffering from serious ailments. <\/p>\n\n<p>The church, officiated by the Jesuits, was enriched with valuable works of art; however, between the nineteenth and twentieth centuries the seventeenth-century building was destroyed to allow the widening of the street and in its place was erected the current church with neo-Gothic forms, work of the architect Spirito Maria Chiappetta.<\/p>\n\n<p>Inside is preserved the fresco representing the Dormitio Virginis, coming from the destroyed church of San Michele, work attributed to a painter from Rimini, dated around 1320.<\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1200\" height=\"1065\" src=\"https:\/\/www.museoduomomonza.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/dormitio-virginis-s-maria-degli-angeli-monza.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-9036\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.museoduomomonza.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/dormitio-virginis-s-maria-degli-angeli-monza.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/www.museoduomomonza.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/dormitio-virginis-s-maria-degli-angeli-monza-600x533.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.museoduomomonza.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/dormitio-virginis-s-maria-degli-angeli-monza-768x682.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px\" \/><\/figure>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The church of Santa Maria degli Angeli was built in 1608 at the behest of the priest and writer Bartolomeo Zucchi, who died of plague in 1630.
